Custom mobile and web apps for tracking animals, pairings, health records, and genetic outcomes. Built on the same technology behind ReptiDex — extended for any species, any inheritance model, any workflow your program actually runs.

002 / The problem
You're not disorganized. No tool exists for the way you actually work.
If you breed animals seriously, you have records scattered across at least three places: a spreadsheet for pairings, a notebook for weights, and a Facebook post you bookmarked six months ago with feeding notes you meant to save somewhere permanent. Sound familiar?
General pet apps are built for owners, not producers. Spreadsheets break the moment your collection outgrows a single tab. Records apps with "breeder mode" treat breeding like an afterthought toggle. None of them know what a pairing is, or what a morph is, or what a clutch full of het lavender babies actually means.
This service is for
Best fit
Breeders losing time to spreadsheets, notebooks, and disconnected apps.
Programs that need lineage, genetics, clutch or litter history, and health data in one place.
Breeders who want mobile-friendly records they can actually use at expos, shows, or in the animal room.
003 / What gets built
The six pieces of a working records app.
Tailored to your species, your workflow, and the data points that actually matter for your program. Built on the same technology behind ReptiDex.
Animal profiles
Photos, hatch/birth dates, weight history, notes, and parentage. One record per animal — searchable, exportable, and tied to everything else.
Pairing history
Which sire × dam produced what, when, and how much. Find every offspring from a single pairing in two taps.
Multi-gen pedigrees
Pedigree as a relational structure, not a PDF. Five generations, cross-program lineage, click into any ancestor.
Genetics engine
Modeled on the actual allele rules for your species. Predict outcomes before pairing. Flag lethal combinations. Crested gecko engine handles 30+ alleles today.
Health & weight logs
Date-tracked entries with visual charts. Catch a weight regression early. Tie OFA, Embark, or species-specific clearances directly to the animal.
Export & backup
Your data is yours. CSV exports, pedigree PDFs, and full backups so your records outlive any single tool — including this one.
004 / This is not theoretical
I built ReptiDex because I needed it for my own program.
ReptiDex hit 50 paid subscribers and 200 animals tracked within 9 days of launch, with zero marketing spend. Real breeders paying for a tool because it solved a problem they'd been dealing with for years.
The genetics engine handles 30+ allele traits for crested geckos, built from real pairing data in my own breeding operation. That same engine can be adapted for any species with established inheritance patterns.
A custom records app uses the same tech, retooled for your species, your genetics, and your workflow. Read the full ReptiDex case study for the engineering details.
The core system doesn't care whether you're tracking litters of puppies, clutches of eggs, or tanks of fish. You tell me what data points matter — what makes an animal identifiable, what inheritance rules apply, what workflows you actually run — and the app is built around that.
If your species has established morph genetics or inheritance patterns, I can model them. If you'd rather compare against off-the-shelf options before deciding to build, the best kennel management software 2026 guide reviews every major platform with the same lens this service page uses.
006 / Why breeders hire me
I'm a working breeder and a senior software engineer.
A · The room
I've cleaned cages at 2 AM.
Twenty years in animals. Active crested gecko breeder. Helped establish the American Bully breed in UKC. I know what working in a program actually looks like.
B · The keyboard
Nine years shipping production software.
Senior engineer with apps live across iOS, web, and AI integrations. Solo engineer on every record app I've built — design, ship, on-call, ongoing.
C · The translation layer
I speak both.
Most software for breeders is built by people who've never run a litter. Most software built by breeders falls over in a year. You shouldn't have to pick.
007 / Pricing
Custom records apps start at $3,500.
Starting at$3,500
Diagnostic call is free for builds over $2,000.
The final price depends on the number of species, complexity of the genetics model, whether you need a mobile app or web-only, and what integrations you require.
What scales the price up
Multiple species or sub-populations with different schemas
Custom genetics engine for a species without an existing model
Native iOS app + web app, vs. one or the other
Integrations with existing tools (Stripe, marketplaces, registry feeds)
Any species. The system is species-agnostic at the architecture level. You tell me what data points matter for your animals and I build the app around your actual workflow. I have personal experience with reptiles and dogs, but the same system works for birds, fish, horses, or exotics.
It can be either or both. ReptiDex is a native iOS app. Some clients prefer a web app they can access from any device. We'll figure out what makes sense for how you work. If you manage animals at expos or shows, a mobile app is usually the right call. If you mostly work from a desk, a web app keeps things simpler.
ReptiDex is a general-purpose reptile tracking app built for the broader market. A custom records app is built specifically for your program, your species, your genetics model, and your workflow. The underlying technology is the same, but every screen, every field, and every calculation is tailored to how you actually manage your animals.
Yes. The genetics engine behind ReptiDex handles 30+ allele traits for crested geckos. That same engine can be adapted for any species with known genetic inheritance patterns. If your species has established morph genetics, I can model it.
Breed Ledger is the off-the-shelf platform — Free, Starter at $29/mo, Professional at $49/mo. If your needs map onto what's already built (animal records, pedigrees, waitlists, breeder website), start there. A custom build makes sense when you need a different data model, a different inheritance engine, or workflows that don't fit the platform.
