about bully color.
The ABKC standard states that all colors and patterns are permissible, so nothing is a color disqualification there, merle included. UKC accepts every color except merle, which it disqualifies (albinism is a disqualification in both). So the two registries differ on exactly one pattern: merle is fine for ABKC and out for UKC. Toggle ABKC or UKC in the tool to see each color's status one registry at a time.
A tri shows tan points on the face, chest, and legs over a base color, genetically at/at on the agouti gene, expressed when the K locus allows it (ky/ky). Because the base can be any color, you get black tri, blue tri, chocolate tri, and lilac tri. Tan points are recessive, so two dogs that only carry one copy can still produce tri puppies.
A ghost tri is genetically tri (at/at) but also carries dominant black (KB), which masks the tan points so they read as faint, washed-out ghost markings instead of clear tan. The dog still carries and can pass on full tri, which is why the tool flags the masked case separately.
Recessive traits like blue, chocolate, tan points (tri), cream, and fluffy only appear when a pup inherits two copies. A pup with one copy looks clear but can pass the trait to its own litters. The hidden-carriers panel shows the odds a visually clear pup from this pairing silently carries a copy, the gap a DNA panel resolves.
The math is exact Mendelian inheritance per locus, including the real epistasis where recessive red and the K locus mask other genes. What it cannot capture is expression variation, modifier genes, and the messier multi-gene colors. Treat the percentages as statistical odds across many puppies, not a guarantee for any single litter.
