Annual Health Testing Calendar
Use this to plan and audit health testing by animal, date, result, retest window, and program priority.

Most breeding programs lose track of health testing one animal at a time. The dam's progesterone testing was done last year so she is "fine." The stud's OFA hips were cleared three years ago so they are "still good." Six months later you are scrambling to schedule a test before a planned breeding because you forgot it expired, or you are explaining to a buyer why a clearance is older than the recommended interval.
The Annual Health Testing Calendar is the program-level view of testing across all your breeding animals at once. Populate it at the start of each year. As the year progresses, the spreadsheet shows you what is upcoming, what is current, and what is overdue.
What the document does
It tracks recurring health testing for up to 24 breeding animals across all 12 months of the year on a single sheet. Each cell represents a planned test for an animal in a given month. As tests are completed, you record the actual completion date. Cells that pass their planned month without completion highlight as overdue, prompting action.
The bonus Test Reference sheet provides a starting point if you are not sure which tests apply to your program. It covers 17 commonly recommended tests for breeding animals across multiple species, with general timing recommendations.
What is included
- Annual calendar grid: 24 rows for breeding animals, 12 columns for months
- Per-animal header capturing call name, registration, sex, and breed
- Conditional formatting that highlights overdue tests as time passes
- Completed test cells capture the actual completion date so you have an audit trail
- Test Reference sheet with 17 commonly recommended tests for breeding animals (OFA hips, OFA elbows, OFA cardiac, OFA eyes, BAER hearing, breed-specific genetic panels, brucellosis, progesterone, and more) with general timing notes
- Printable PDF version for breeders who prefer a wall calendar in the kennel office
Format and how it works
Includes an editable spreadsheet (.xlsx) with conditional formatting plus a printable PDF version. The .xlsx works in Excel, Apple Numbers, and Google Sheets. Most breeders populate the calendar at the start of each year with planned tests per animal, then update it as tests are completed across the year.
The Test Reference sheet is a separate tab in the spreadsheet. It is general guidance and not a replacement for veterinary advice. Different breeds and species have different testing recommendations. Talk to your reproductive vet about what your program needs.
Why this version is different
Most program-level health tracking lives in someone's head or in a notebook that gets lost. This version makes the entire program visible on one sheet, with the planned vs. actual structure that turns "we should probably check on that" into "this is overdue, schedule it." The Test Reference sheet alone saves first-time breeders hours of research figuring out what testing is even recommended for their breed.
Who this is for
For breeders running multi-animal programs who want a single, current view of where every breeding animal stands on health testing. Especially valuable for breeders preparing for breeding seasons, breed club applications, or buyer due diligence questions about what testing has been done. Also valuable for new breeders setting up their first program and wanting a structure to plan around.
